Eyelid Treatment
-
Eyelid Treatment is a treatment for dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), which is a blockage of the sebaceous glands leading to eyelid inflammation, dry eye, redness, irritation, or stye. Dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is due to decreased tear production from the main lacrimal gland, and/or accessory lacrimal glands. As a result, tear film loses its stability and evaporates more quickly, leading to eye irritation and dry eye.
-
Eyelid Treatment is a form of massage that works along the length of the eyelids to provide relief from obstruction of the meibomian glands using a warm compress at 30-40 degrees Celsius for 10-15 minutes.
Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)
-
Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) is an eye condition where meibomian glands lining the eyelids are not functioning properly. MGD may be caused from a combination of a few factors: insufficient amount of oil produced (from the glands), poor oil quality, or some problem with the glands themselves. Oil, an essential part of tear film, helps lubricate tears and reduce evaporation. Obstructive MGD, the most common form of MGD, is caused when the gland openings get obstructed, leading to less oil production and lower oil quality. The oil produced can be granular (crusty) and can cause irritation. MGD, a very common disease, may be asymptomatic in its early stages, but often further develops if left untreated, exacerbating dry eye symptoms and eyelid inflammation. Over time, the oil glands become blocked with thickened secretions. Chronically clogged glands eventually become unable to secrete oil which results in permanent changes in the tear film and dry eyes.

-
Certain medications, including antihistamines, acne medication, antidepressants and certain blood pressure medications, etc.
